Simple Bible Truths Jesus Alone
Mark 14–15

Jesus, alone.

In his final hours, one by one, everyone left him.

Judas: betrayed him with a kiss, for money.
His closest friends: fell asleep while he prayed in anguish.
Peter: “I do not know this man.”
The disciples: every one of them fled.
The crowd: shouted for Barabbas, a murderer, instead.
The passersby: mocked him as he hung dying.
The religious leaders: condemned the Messiah they had been waiting for.
“Then everyone deserted him and fled.”
Mark 14:50

So would we.

PETER SWORE
“Even if all fall away, I will not.”
PETER DID
“I do not know this man.”

Even His most confident disciple fell. We would like to think we would have stayed. Peter thought so too.

“We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.”
Isaiah 53:6

Jesus alone.

Only he could save us. He stayed to die in our place.

In the garden: “Not what I will, but what you will.”
At the trial: answered “I am,” knowing it meant death.
On the cross: abandoned and mocked, he stayed to his last breath.

Saving us required a sacrifice, and only he could be it. He stayed and died for the very people who left him. Including us.

“For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
Mark 10:45

What’s left for you to do?

Accept the cross. And worship Jesus with everything.

Believe who He is
The centurion: a Roman. An outsider. The last person you’d expect.
He watched Jesus die, and said it plainly:
“Truly this man was the Son of God.” (Mark 15:39)
Give him everything
The woman with the perfume: broke open her most precious possession and poured it all out on him.
She gave him her best, and held nothing back.
Jesus called it “a beautiful thing.” (Mark 14:3–9)

“You can shut him up for a fool, you can spit at him and kill him as a demon, or you can fall at his feet and call him Lord and God.” C.S. Lewis
